We’ve all been there, a big life transition happens which becomes the priority and everything else goes by the wayside. Whether it’s a busy season at work or at home – stressful periods may be inevitable and while they are manageable in the short-term, if you don’t take steps to keep the stress under control, it can lead to fatigue and burnout.
When you find yourself in the midst of a stressful phase of life, try these 4 ways to stay balanced through a busy season.
4 Ways to Stay Balanced Through a Busy Season
1. Set Your Daily Intention
The key to being more balanced and remaining compassionate during a busy season of life is to program yourself first thing in the morning. It’s easy to become snappy when the day’s tasks are filled with those less than exciting yet essential things that need to be done.
Starting the day with a clear intention of how you want to feel throughout the day makes it more likely that we will respond kindly when those challenging and unfavorable moments happen. Start the day with positive thinking and mentally preparing yourself for how you will react in a given situation.
2. Prioritize Movement as a Family
Incorporating exercise as a family has a positive impact on staying balanced. It is refreshing to put the body in motion whether it’s a short walk, yoga, or even a trip to the playground with the kiddos. It gives us a feeling of control over one aspect of our life and of course it boosts our mood.
When the weather isn’t cooperative for outdoor activities, it’s nice to find indoor facilities that help us to still get moving.
3. Make Time for Quiet Activities
Finding time for quiet activities in alliance with active activities helps to facilitate a healthy balance. Reading is the perfect quiet activity – it’s something I enjoy and my boys enjoy even if we are reading their books. Sometimes when I notice they need a little down time, we choose puzzles or build with blocks.
This is a chance to quietly engage for a bit and doesn’t require a lot of energy. It really promotes a feeling of balance and it’s often these quiet moments that are the most memorable of the day.
4. Maintain Health Goals
Consider your physical needs and consider how you can support your health with vitamins, supplements, and nutrition. During our busy life seasons, we have to pay attention to what our body needs. It’s way too easy to put our individual needs on the back burner. Finding a mind-body balance even during those busy seasons of life is a priority.

Realistically, balance isn’t something that people achieve in a single day. And, of course, unexpected obligations will come up from time to time. It’s still important to take time for yourself. Making time for yourself amid the other life demands will ultimately make you happier and reset your balance.
