Are you looking into ABCmouse but want to research and read a real ABCmouse review to know if it is worth it? Well, I wanted to share my thoughts ABCmouse.com® Early Learning Academy as so many of our readers have young kids and some have asked me if I have ever tried the program.
We all want the very best for our kiddos and starting them on the right educational path begins early. I realized just how high the expectations were starting in kindergarten when I was teaching in an elementary school. With that said, sending my child off to school is just around the corner and it’s important to me that my boys have confidence in the classroom and healthy learning routines at home that will hopefully transfer to the classroom.
My boys are two and four-years-old and they do not go to traditional preschool this year. I try to carve out a time in our day for early learning and it’s important to me to make learning an active part of our days. Of course, early learning crosses so many domains from fine motor development to early learning concepts, to social skills, and gross motor skills and there are so many ways to practice these skills!
As part of our weekly activities, we select a letter of the week and then integrate activities around the letter. I noticed my oldest son just wasn’t retaining the letter names and sounds as we moved week to week which is completely fine since developmentally he is still young but I thought trying another avenue may just spark his interest. That’s when I decided to take the plunge to try ABCmouse.
ABCmouse is an early learning software developed by for the purpose of using technology to educate children through a full online curriculum.
The current program will benefit children ages 3-8 with curriculum created by a board of teachers and educational experts from a variety of fields including science and history.
The scope of the online curriculum includes:
- Language development (vocabulary, listening skills, grammar)
- Reading (the alphabet, phonics, sight words, comprehension, genres, reading strategies)
- Math (numbers and operations, shapes, measurement, patterns,)
- Science and Technology (weather, plants and animals, matter and energy, space science, inventions)
- Social Studies (families and communities, geography and maps, U.S. history, states, famous Americans)
- Health (the human body, habits for health and safety, health care)
Each level and subject incorporates books, songs, games, puzzles, art activities, and printables to help children have a well-rounded experience with the information.
Our Personal Experience
Since each of my boys have access to an iPad, it was important to me that ABCmouse be available as an app. Surprisingly, you can access ABCmouse from ANY device because they have apps available for iPhone, Android, Kindle, and desktop (through the internet).
My children don’t have to wait for a turn. They can each choose different learning activities on their tablets while seated side by side. They were both able to take the assessments and then activities were assigned at their independent levels.
Truthfully, I primarily joined for my 4-year-old use the tool, but since the $7.95 monthly fee allows up to three kids, I figured it didn’t hurt to make an account for my almost 3-year-old. I just let him start using it a couple of weeks ago, so he hasn’t had a lot of time yet, but what amazes me is that he is engaged and learning!
IS ABCMOUSE WORTH THE COST?
ABCmouse is $7.95 a month. You can save on your subscription when you purchase a 6-month or 12-month plan. And some people may wonder why you would pay for this subscription when there are free alternatives available, but consider this, ABCmouse does not have advertising and external links and so you can be confident your child is learning in a secure environment.
Also, this is a comprehensive curriculum that differentiates to a child’s level. This is a tremendous value for the price. And as a parent, I can track my child’s progress.
How to know if ABCmouse is right for your child?
There really isn’t a way for me to definitively tell you that this will work for all kids. But that’s why I would suggest requesting a free 30-day trial. Even if you are fully convinced and want to dive right in, still do the trial because it gives you a free month regardless!
My advice is to check out ABCmouse for yourself with the 30-day Free Trial!
