Embracing Seasons of Motherhood

As we approach Mother’s Day, I’m taking time to reflect. This lovely Mother’s Day happens to be my birthday as well…I’m feeling kinda special over here! *happyhappy dance* What a blessing to be able to celebrate mamahood and to celebrate another year of life.

Right now, in this current season of motherhood, I feel at peace. I think about where I am right now with both of my boys and it feels good…and I love it. Cherishing this time I know is important because just like the seasons of the year, the seasons of motherhood change.

So don’t despair if this isn’t your motherhood season of joy. Don’t feel alone or wonder why you aren’t at peace right now. One thing I know through the seasons of motherhood, we experience the low of the low and the highest of the highs.

Sometimes the slow and steady moments prepare us for the wrath of the next moments to come. And sometimes those moments come in like a lion. It’s part of the journey.

With the slow and steady, it’s important for me to inhale and exhale joy. I need the strength from this season to carry me through the next. Have you ever realized that clarity comes with the calm? After one l o o o n g day after another of tantrums, crying, stress, exhaustion, I just feel bottomed out. I spin the gears in my brain seeking solutions and I have no answers. But, what I have is reflecting on the good (although the current state might not be so good).

Embracing Seasons of Motherhood

As the mother of a 3.5-year-old and an 18-month-old, each day brings a variety of ups and downs. Both boys are developing into their own little persons and their relationship with each other, with me, with my husband, and even with the world is changing and growing.

Our role as mothers is no easy task. We are at the forefront of nurturing, teaching, worrying, loving, shaping, disciplining and extending ourselves further than we ever imagined possible. It’s in pushing ourselves past those boundaries, that we grow just a little bit more. We become more knowledgeable, more compassionate, more loving, and more forgiving. This is what is so beautiful about a mother’s love – it’s infinite, dynamic, and pure.

On the days when we feel we have nothing left to give, we love a little stronger and push a little harder, and we grow. When we embrace the seasons of motherhood, we grow in grace and we grow in love.

We all have these seasons. I hope that whatever season you’re in, you do not feel alone. It’s often really hard in the moment but trust that this motherhood season does not define you, but it gives you direction for your journey.

As always, thank you for following along and connecting with me on my motherhood journey and allowing me to connect with you on yours!

I definitely relate to this! 2 years ago was my first mother’s day and it was definitely not a season of joy. Last year’s was better, but I was still feeling the shadow of the previous year. This year is joyful. My “terrible 2” toddler isn’t so terrible after all… don’t get me wrong, he’s still a HANDFUL, but my season of motherhood has changed from darkness to light. I felt guilty about the darker start to motherhood, but this article helped me come to terms with the normalcy that motherhood isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. I’ve been looking forward to Mother’s Day blog posts for months and this is a beautiful start!

I completely understand! My oldest at 3.5 still has really good days and total “terrible 3” days but I’m learning so much about how to manage on the days that are really tough. I’m so glad you took the time to share with me, Michelle! I truly hope this Mother’s Day is a special day for you.

You are such a kind friend! It definitely makes the tough moments better just realizing it’s a “season” and the good times are right around the corner. Happy Mother’s Day to you!
