Fitness and health are definitely important to me and I try to make healthy habits part of my lifestyle. Now, with that said, I’m faaaar from a health expert. I try to be balanced with eating healthy and exercising but it does not come easily or perfectly. Before I had children, I went to the gym regularly but I’ve always had ups and downs with my body confidence.
Fast forward to life now, two kids later, going to the gym regularly has not been possible and I feel more out of shape than ever before. I’m not one for making excuses and I swear going to the gym by myself would seem like a vacation but it really hasn’t been possible. So for now, I have to find an alternative way to make exercise part of my lifestyle with my kids.
How Did I Start
I load my two kiddos into the double stroller and we start with a normal paced walk increasing my speed and recently I’m able to do some jogging. I use the free app MapMyRun to track my time and distance but I don’t put much emphasis on the calories burned since I am pushing a double stroller and I would be hugely discouraged if I focused on that particular number.
Let me assure you, this routine is not perfect and there are often times curve balls. I have learned to just be flexible and stay positive about the exercise that is achieved. In the beginning, my toddler was impatient and our walks were short but now we have been able to increase the time with the
bribe deal that “mommy exercises first and then we go to the playground”!
There are different challenges every day with two kiddos and I sometimes feel like it’s impossible to keep them both happy at the same time. One day I might get 27 minutes of exercise and then the next day 41 minutes. One day I ended up heading home babywearing Little E and pushing Eli in the double stroller! Other times, Eli walks alongside me and Little E is in the stroller. I have embraced these challenges and honestly I really enjoy the exercise and time outside.
So what are your health goals and how do you work towards them with kids?
With Love, Erin
